Do you know about Tenango-style embroidery?
Also called Otomi, let me tell you a little about it.
Otomi embroidery, also known as Tenango embroidery, is a cultural tradition of the Otomi community that has been passed down from generation to generation.
It originated in the highland region of the state of Hidalgo, Mexico, and has developed over the years.
In the 1960s, the residents of Tenango de Doria began to improve their embroidery in order to sell it and survive an economic crisis.
Different materials are used to produce the various items, including silk, linen and cotton.
The designs honour the community and its traditions, such as harvest, sowing or birth. The Otomi designs are symbols based on the native flora and fauna of the Otomi region.
